Tuscany Day 2

Breakfast. I am certain we cannot eat like this every day: cakes, bread, lemon goodness, croissants...you get the picture. Its absolutely delicious and I need a banana! Or granola.

Shortly after breakfast we took our first outing to Castellina in Chianti. "Which formerly stood on the front line of the continual war between Florence and Siena." A beautiful fortress with a covered walk; lined with art shops, wine shops, olive oil and more.

Next we drove to Radda in Chianti with the center being Piazza Ferrucci. We met a wonderful man who owned a fantastic wine shop and recommended a great cafe for a lite lunch...he owned the cafe also! (His son lives in Columbia MD). The local cuisine is delicious. Wild boar stew with large pasta. Sheep cheese and spinach stuffed raviloi, and a  bruchetta that cannot be matched!

It was a quiet and early evening for us. Lornna and Karen went to Poggibonsi for groceries (coffee). I showed Lornna how to make espresso this morning (thank you Lanny Boswell). I hear grocery shopping is an adventure. You rent the grocery cart. Everyone wears one glove. And food is weighed and tagged before getting to the register. Fun!

Tom and I stayed at the villa and meandered through the vines. A muddy trek but also fun.

Our week is packed. A 5 hour cooking class tomorrow. Then horseback riding Tuesday,  pasta making and wine tasting Wednesday.....then maybe for me...more horse riding. ;)

I have decided there is a absolute must to add to our agenda: Starting each day with a run/walk through the vines!
