Another great day! I am certain I have had the best food EVER in the past 2 days. Between Chez Black in Positano and Emmas in Amalfi we have found culinary heaven.
Somehow during tasting our way through the coast of Italy we have also managed to shop at some amazing shops. My favorite in Ravello; Ceramiche d'Art Carmela. We also toured the famous gardens of Cimbrone and the Duomo di Ravello.
After a lengthy discussion we have all voted Ravello as our favorite place so far (for me Lucca is not far behind)...did I mention we also had a fantastic lunch in Ravello (lemon risotto).
This evening we took a walk up the hill in Amalfi toward the old paper factory. There was a very small shop built into the side of the mountain. It looked more like a factory than a shop (except for a cute sign outside advertising limoncello). We were pretty sure it was open - but not positive. The gentlemen inside looked less than pleased to see us. Our attention was first caught by the cute dog on the porch (which we were told not to touch). My eyes were then drawn to what looked like large metal vats inside the shop (the kind wine makers use)! Never one to pass a vat..we ventured in. I think after some convincing (and a ton of smiling) the gentlemen determined we were friendly...and that we weren't going away - so he began explaining the process of making limoncello! We had numerous tastes of his many stellar beverages: chocolate, melon, lemon, cream, licorice, fennel. We left the shop with our arms full, and the shop owner had a smile on his face :)
Tomorrow we pack up the car (with more than we arrived with) and head to our next location..Romitorio di Serelle in Tuscany.
Our adventure continues...
